The Iraqi Ministry of Health has announced that the new linear accelerators designated for cancer treatment at the Anbar Oncology Centre will soon be operational. The announcement was made by the Director-General of Anbar Health, Dr. Khudair Khalaf Shalal, following his visit to the centre on Monday, 3 February 2025, to assess the readiness of the equipment.
Under the guidance and supervision of Minister of Health Dr. Saleh Mahdi Al-Hasnawi, the ministry has equipped the centre with two linear accelerators sourced from leading global manufacturers. The installation of these advanced machines has been completed, and they are set to be launched shortly, significantly enhancing oncology treatment services within Anbar province.
Dr. Shalal highlighted that the operation of these advanced radiotherapy devices will spare patients the burden of travelling both within Iraq and abroad to access radiation treatment. This initiative is expected to alleviate financial strain on patients and their families while ensuring high-quality, localised cancer care.
