The enduring themes of pain and martyrdom are vividly captured in the artwork showcased in the Ministry of Culture’s halls.
On Monday 19th August, Dr. Ahmed Fakkak Al-Badrani, the Minister of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities, inaugurated the annual Taf exhibition, organised by the Department of Public Art. The event, overseen by Mr. Qassim Al-Sudani, Undersecretary for Arts Affairs, was held in the department’s exhibition halls at the Ministry’s headquarters.
In his remarks, Al-Badrani highlighted the exhibition’s exploration of various aspects of the timeless epic. The event featured 75 works of art by 59 artists, spanning diverse mediums such as painting and sculpture. He praised the range of artistic styles, noting how each school brought its own vision to the portrayal of the Battle of Taf – a historical event that resonates to this day. The exhibition’s strength lies in the contrast and modernity of the works, showcasing beauty through their varied forms.
Dr. Qasim Mohsen, Director General of the Department of Public Art, added that some of the pieces on display were created during a meeting organised by the department, which brought together numerous artists. While some of these works were completed at the Ministry’s headquarters, others were produced in Karbala Governorate.
