Apple Inc. Explores Tech Collaboration in Iraq

Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani welcomed a delegation from the American tech giant Apple on Monday, alongside Mr. Ali Al-Moayyad, Chairman of the Communications and Media Commission (CMC). The meeting marked a significant step towards enhancing Iraq’s digital infrastructure and technological capabilities.

Al-Sudani highlighted Iraq’s ongoing digital transformation, led by the Supreme Committee for Digital Transformation. He emphasised that Iraq has become an attractive investment hub for major international companies, necessitating rapid adaptation to evolving digital landscapes. The Prime Minister focused on the government’s commitment to empowering Iraqi youth with advanced skills in tech, creating new job opportunities, and advancing the country’s digital ecosystem to streamline services and transactions.

Apple’s delegation expressed interest in supporting Iraq’s digital growth by collaborating with universities to nurture young tech talent and developers. They also proposed initiatives to ensure that Apple products entering the Iraqi market are competitively priced, recognising the key role of their devices in driving economic and financial digitalisation.

The meeting emphasises Iraq’s ambition to become a regional leader in technology and innovation, with Apple poised to play a pivotal role in shaping the country’s digital future. Following record-breaking Q3-2024 sales in the Middle East, Apple is keen to capitalise on Iraq’s emerging market potential. As iPhone sales face challenges in Western markets, Iraq offers a promising opportunity for growth, positioning itself as a key player in the company’s broader strategy to expand in untapped regions. This partnership could not only boost Iraq’s digital economy but also help Apple diversify its customer base in a rapidly evolving global landscape.
