The ancient game of Mheibes has been attracting crowds of enthusiastic players and onlookers in the streets of Iraq in recent weeks, as popularity surges during Eid celebrations. The traditional game, which dates back to the ancient Mesopotamian era, has long been a beloved pastime in Iraq, but has experienced a recent resurgence in popularity.
Mheibes is a simple game, played by two teams, with the objective for a member of each team to hold a ring – unknown to the other team who is holding it – to be identified.
The game has been passed down through generations of Iraqis and has remained a popular pastime.
