Baghdad International Airport Revamp in Full Swing

Minister of Transport, Mr. Razzaq Muhaibis Al-Saadawi, continues his field visits to Baghdad International Airport to directly monitor ongoing rehabilitation and development projects led by the General Company for Airports and Air Navigation Management.

The projects are progressing as part of Iraq’s preparations to host the Arab Summit in Baghdad next May, with an increased pace of construction following the Minister’s direct supervision. Efforts are focused on ensuring the highest standards of organisation and hospitality for the upcoming event.

During his visit, Minister Al-Saadawi chaired a meeting with the Airports and Air Navigation Administration, alongside the Undersecretary of the Ministry for Administrative Affairs. The discussion centred on accelerating work and maintaining adherence to international standards.

Rehabilitation efforts include upgrades to airport lounges, expansion of green spaces, and the enhancement of operational systems in line with global aviation benchmarks.

In a press statement, the Minister provided updates on international airport projects in Nineveh, Karbala, and Dhi Qar, announcing that these airports are set to open in the second half of this year. He emphasised the urgency of maintaining construction schedules and ensuring compliance with international specifications to enhance Iraq’s aviation infrastructure.
