Baghdad Named Arab Tourism Capital of 2025

The Arab Tourism Organisation has announced the selection of Baghdad as the Arab Tourism Capital for 2025. The decision was made during the 35th session of the Arab Ministerial Council for Tourism, held at the League of Arab States headquarters in Cairo.

This prestigious recognition was awarded in light of Baghdad’s fulfilment of the established criteria for the title. These include excellence in tourism management, robust infrastructure, abundant tourism resources, diverse activities, commitment to environmental conservation, health and safety measures, and security and stability for tourists.

The decision was warmly welcomed by the Arab Ministerial Council for Tourism. Dr Bandar bin Fahd Al-Fahid, President of the Arab Tourism Organisation, extended his congratulations to President Abdul Latif Rashid, Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, and the Iraqi government.

Dr Al-Fahid highlighted that the selection aims to foster inter-Arab tourism. He announced plans for a grand celebration to officially inaugurate Baghdad’s title as the Arab Tourism Capital in early 2025. This event, organised in collaboration with Iraq’s Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities, will be accompanied by a series of tourism initiatives and programmes designed to promote Iraq’s prominence on the regional and international tourism stage.
