Baghdad is preparing to take centre stage as the Arab Tourism Capital for 2025, with significant efforts led by the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Antiquities. The Minister, Professor Dr Ahmad Fakkak Al-Badrani, chaired a meeting of the Central Committee to finalise plans for the grand launch, attended by senior ministry officials and the Acting Chairman of the Tourism Authority, Nasser Ghanem Murad.
Key discussions focused on logistical and promotional preparations, including the launch of a regional office for the Arab Tourism Organisation in Baghdad. The committee has tasked the Iraqi Media Network with designing a special logo for the occasion, which will feature prominently in official communications across government institutions.
The celebrations are set to begin on 2nd February 2025, with a symbolic handover of the key to Baghdad as the Arab Tourism Capital to the Prime Minister. The ceremony will be attended by Arab tourism ministers and other dignitaries. According to the Minister, the opening day will feature cultural and artistic performances, literary evenings, and a documentary showcasing the project’s progress.
Efforts are also underway in collaboration with civil society organisations and the Baghdad Municipality to enhance the city’s heritage and tourist landmarks. These include campaigns to clean and restore key sites, ensuring Baghdad shines as a beacon of history and culture for visitors.
This initiative aims to celebrate Iraq’s rich cultural heritage and reaffirm Baghdad’s place as a premier destination in the Arab world.
