Baghdad-Ramadi Train Service Reopens After 20 Years

The Minister of Transport, Mr. Razzaq Muhaibis Al-Saadawi, officially inaugurated the (Baghdad-Ramadi) railway line in Anbar today, marking its return to service after 20 years of inactivity due to terrorist attacks. This rehabilitation was completed by the General Company for Iraqi Railways’ technical and engineering teams. The railway line, which connects Baghdad to Ramadi, plays a vital role in Iraq’s transportation network, especially given Ramadi’s proximity to neighbouring countries like Jordan and Syria, enhancing trade and regional connectivity.

During the ceremony, Mr. Al-Saadawi emphasised the importance of reopening this line to serve the people of Anbar, particularly those in remote areas, and underscored the ministry’s commitment to rehabilitating other railway lines across Iraq. His visit to Anbar included discussions with the local government and provincial council about additional transportation projects aimed at improving services and promoting economic development.

The Minister also announced plans to accelerate the reopening of the (Anbar – Al-Qaim) railway line and the launch of new mass transit services. Local officials, including the Governor, Mr. Mohammed Nouri Al-Karbouli, praised the efforts to enhance transportation in the province, highlighting the significance of these projects in improving mobility, trade, and infrastructure for the people of Anbar.
