Census 2024: Higher Education Discusses Its Impact on Development

The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research recently organised a workshop focused on the upcoming general population census set for 20 November 2024, and its impact on Iraq’s developmental movement. Representatives from the Supreme Commission for the General Population and Housing Census were present, highlighting the critical role of the ministry in ensuring the success of the census.

The workshop showcased the importance of leveraging the ministry’s scientific resources, expertise, and community outreach efforts to facilitate the census process. It emphasised the contribution of technical competencies needed for thorough data analysis and how the census results could be strategically used to refine educational and research planning, aligning with broader development goals.

Participants from the ministry’s central team engaged in discussions that underscored the census’s value in creating an integrated information system. This system would capture key demographic and socio-economic details, including economic status, social and health indicators, educational levels, living conditions, and environmental factors.

By fostering such workshops, the Ministry of Higher Education aims to support the national census initiative, ensuring a data-driven approach to policy-making and long-term development planning in Iraq.
