Central Child Hospital Treats 124 Premature Babies in February

The premature ward at the Central Child Teaching Hospital in Baghdad, under the Karkh Health Department, provided lifesaving care to 124 premature babies in February 2025, ensuring critical medical support from the first hours of birth.

Premature babies often face serious health risks, including respiratory distress, congenital jaundice, lung complications, congenital defects, and hypoglycemia. The hospital’s state-of-the-art neonatal unit is equipped with 33 incubators, 15 CPAP-equipped incubators, 5 ventilators, a mobile X-ray machine, and a dedicated laboratory, allowing for rapid diagnosis and specialised treatment.

This facility plays a crucial role in reducing infant mortality rates and improving the survival chances of Iraq’s most vulnerable newborns. By providing continuous care and advanced neonatal treatments, the hospital continues to be a lifeline for families and a cornerstone of neonatal healthcare in Iraq.
