The Communication and Information Technology Regulatory Authority (CITRA) has announced the launch of a new international corridor connecting Europe and the Gulf, dubbed the “Iraq route,” in partnership with Zajil Telecom.
In a statement released to KUNA on Wednesday, CITRA highlighted that this new land-based route offers a faster and more reliable alternative to traditional marine routes, which are often impacted by maintenance delays. The new cable boasts a capacity of 100 GB, making it an ideal solution for large companies and international service providers seeking high-speed and secure data transfers.
The Iraq route enables seamless and efficient information transfer from Kuwait to Europe via Iraq, marking a significant milestone in regional connectivity. Abdullah Al-Ajmi, Acting President of CITRA, emphasised that this initiative positions Kuwait as a regional leader in secure digital communication, while also driving the country’s infrastructure development and economic growth.
“The Iraq route will not only enhance Kuwait’s image as a pioneer in digital communication but will also provide businesses and service providers with a trusted option for faster and safer data transmission,” Al-Ajmi stated.
He also noted that local telecommunications companies have already started utilising the new corridor to deliver improved services to their customers. The project was executed in collaboration with the Iraqi Informatics and Telecommunication Public Company (ITPC), reflecting a shared commitment to advancing regional connectivity and digital transformation.
