The Ministry of Migration and Displacement, under the direction of Minister Ms. Evan Faeq Jabro, convened its fourth meeting with the National Comprehensive Plan Committee to Reduce Illegal Immigration. Chaired by Dr. Safaa Hussein, Director General of the Immigration Affairs Department and Vice-Chairman of the committee, the meeting brought together officials from various ministries and agencies at the Ministry of Construction, Housing, and Public Municipalities headquarters in Baghdad.
The meeting focused on the essential role of national authorities in curbing illegal immigration, exploring the tasks each agency would undertake to support a coordinated approach. Discussions also centred around formulating policies to attract skilled Iraqi professionals from abroad, aligning with the Ministry’s vision to foster national development and stability.
Key recommendations were put forward, emphasising the need for coordinated reporting on illegal immigration at an international level. The Ministries of Interior and Foreign Affairs, alongside the National Security Service, will jointly develop a report examining global trends affecting Iraq. An annual review will also track the progress of the National Comprehensive Plan, allowing the Ministry to evaluate its effectiveness and adapt strategies as needed.
Additionally, the Ministry aims to engage academic institutions by offering specialised courses on illegal immigration, encouraging awareness and proactive approaches to the issue among young Iraqis. A detailed study will be prioritised, underscoring the Ministry’s commitment to tackling illegal immigration through in-depth research and evidence-based solutions.
Through these initiatives, the Ministry of Migration and Displacement reaffirms its dedication to reducing illegal immigration, attracting Iraqi expertise from abroad, and building a stronger, more resilient Iraq.
