Czech Companies Eye Iraq’s Water Sector Opportunities

On the 12th January 2025, Czech Ambassador Jan Šnaidauf met with Iraq’s Minister of Water Resources, Aoun Diab Abdullah, to explore opportunities for Czech companies to contribute to Iraq’s water management projects. The discussion highlighted Czechia’s extensive expertise in water management, with a legacy of over 50 years of engagement by Czech and former Czechoslovak companies in the Iraqi market.

Ambassador Šnaidauf emphasised Czechia’s advanced technical solutions, which span the entire water cycle. These include drinking water supply, wastewater treatment, hydrogeological services, dam construction and modernisation, irrigation system upgrades, consulting services, and infrastructure maintenance.

Minister Abdullah provided insights into Iraq’s pressing needs and strategic priorities in water resource management. He expressed interest in fostering cooperation with Czech companies and extended an invitation to Czech representatives from the Ministry of the Environment and Ministry of Agriculture to participate in the upcoming Baghdad International Water Conference, scheduled for 27–29 April 2025.

This collaboration aligns with Iraq’s efforts to address water scarcity challenges, modernise its water infrastructure, and ensure sustainable management of resources, leveraging Czechia’s technical expertise and longstanding experience in the region.
