Iraq’s Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani met on Wednesday, September 25th, with Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, the CEO of DP World, one of the world’s leading port management companies. The discussions focused on potential areas of cooperation between Iraq and DP World, particularly in cargo transport and re-export services.
DP World’s CEO expressed interest in supporting Iraq’s efforts to enhance its logistics and transportation sectors. The company’s successful track record in transporting goods between Asia and Europe was highlighted as a potential model for improving Iraq’s trade routes. Bin Sulayem also mentioned the possibility of engaging in private-sector partnerships across various industrial fields within Iraq.
Prime Minister Al-Sudani highlighted that Iraq is committed to fostering constructive economic partnerships and utilising its resources to drive growth. He brought attention to the importance of the Development Road Project, a key initiative aimed at diversifying Iraq’s economy beyond oil by enhancing infrastructure and creating thousands of jobs. The project is central to Iraq’s long-term economic strategy and positions the country as a regional hub for logistics and trade.
The meeting reflects Iraq’s broader strategy of engaging global partners to advance its non-oil economy and develop critical infrastructure.
