Efforts to Revive Construction of Nasiriyah Stadium

The Ministry of Planning has initiated an investigation into the prolonged suspension of the Nasiriyah Olympic Stadium construction project in Dhi Qar Governorate. On Thursday, specialised field follow-up teams conducted a site visit to identify the key obstacles and challenges delaying the project and to propose actionable solutions for resuming construction.

The Nasiriyah Olympic Stadium, a flagship project within the government programme under the Ministry of Youth and Sports, has remained incomplete for several years. The project is a vital development for the region, designed to accommodate over 30,000 spectators. It includes a reinforced concrete first floor and steel-structured second and third floors, complete with roofing. The complex also features health and electrical services, a training field for 500 spectators, a secondary stadium with a 2,000-spectator capacity, a two-storey hotel with 75 rooms, landscaped gardens, a parking garage, and dedicated public entry and exit gates.

In a statement, the Ministry emphasised the importance of the project as an integrated sports facility aimed at hosting local club matches, enhancing the sports movement in the governorate, and supporting the youth and sports sectors. The stadium and associated infrastructure are designed to meet international football standards, contributing to the development of sports in the region.

The Ministry of Planning urged all concerned authorities to take immediate measures to overcome existing challenges and expedite the project’s completion. Resuming work on the Nasiriyah Olympic Complex is seen as a crucial step toward boosting the governorate’s sports infrastructure and promoting youth development.
