The Director General of the House of Books and Documents, Mr. Bareq Raad Alawi, has confirmed that the completion of the Digital Library Project is approaching, describing it as a crucial national initiative aimed at preserving Iraq’s rich cultural heritage.
As part of its ongoing efforts to implement a comprehensive digital transformation, the House of Books and Documents is making significant progress on this pioneering project, considered one of the most advanced in the Arab region. The project will feature digital and interactive exhibition halls, as well as rooms dedicated to the digital archiving of books, documents, and other important materials.
Mr. Alawi emphasised that the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities remains fully committed to completing the project within its planned timeframe, with the initiative identified as a top priority. He highlighted that the project’s primary objective is the preservation of Iraq’s national archive and cultural heritage, ensuring it is easily accessible to researchers and scholars via modern technology.
Further discussions have focused on the technical aspects of the digital preservation system, as well as strategies to enhance its capacity to manage the growing volume of archived content. This project represents a significant step in safeguarding Iraq’s historical and cultural legacy for future generations.
