In the Al- Adhamiyah district of Baghdad, Iraq, lies the shrine of Imam Abu Hanifa al- Nu’man. In Iraq it is regarded as a site of religious and historical significance.
Imam Abu Hanifa al- Nu’man, who died in Baghdad in 767 AD, was a famous scholar and theologian, whose works impacted different schools of thought within the Islamic faith.
The mosque with a domed mausoleum, within which sits the shrine, was established in 375 AH. An education complex was later added in 459 AH.
Over the centuries, it became a prominent center for Islamic studies.
The 12th- century traveller, Ibn Jubayr notably described the shrine’s architecture as a “white dome rising high in the air.”
Aided by Türkiye’s ongoing restoration efforts to further preserve this historic site, the shrine draws thousands of visitors annually, especially during religious occasions and remains a symbol of Baghdad’s rich Islamic heritage, spanning centuries of devotion, knowledge, and architectural beauty.
