Inclusive Weightlifting Event in Baghdad

Led by Dr. Ahmed Al-Mubarqa, the Iraq Ministry of Youth and Sports organised the Weightlifting Championship for the Disabled in Baghdad. The event welcomed participants of all genders, and showcased the Ministry’s commitment to supporting athletes with disabilities under the slogan “Our Youth: Creativity, Construction, and Development”.

The championship took place in the hall of the Iraqi National Paralympic Committee in Baghdad, organised by the Department of Physical Education and Sports- Division of Sports for People with Disabilities and Special Needs. 

Muhannad Amer, head of the People with Disabilities Division, emphasised the Ministry’s commitment to empowering this vital segment of society. He highlighted that the championship is both an initiative of support and a step towards greater inclusion in sports.

Amer also noted that the championship serves to prepare the competitors for upcoming international competitions. 

The Ministry of Youth and Sports is making continuous efforts to create the best possible conditions for the success of Iraq’s national weightlifting team and other sports programmes for athletes with disabilities.
