Today’s thrilling match between Iraq and Indonesia, proved both teams to have impressive abilities. Iraq’s team adopted a 4-3-2-1 formation, while Indonesia opted for a 3-4-2-1 setup. The first half saw both teams unable to break the standoff, with Indonesia appearing to have a promising start.
On the other hand, the second half was much more dramatic. Iraq was handed a penalty and Aymen Hussein seized the opportunity successfully scoring at the 54th minute and giving Iraq a 1 nil lead.
Unfortunately for Indonesia Jordi Amat received a red card at the 59th minute, leaving his teammates to play with 10 players, putting Iraq at further advantage.
Ali Jasim scored a second goal at the 88th minute, due to a miscalculation on goalkeeper Ernando Ari’s part, sealing his team’s victory. The match finished with Iraq’s 2-0 win, giving the team hope in their upcoming difficult but highly anticipated matches.
In the post-match press conference, team coach Jesús Casas emphasised how the strategic adjustments made after the first half facilitated their victory. Player of the match Ali Jasim praised his team for their collaborative effort leading to their success and remarked on the wonderful support from the Indonesian fans, highlighting the mutual respect shown by both sets of supporters.
Looking ahead, Iraq will face Vietnam on June 11, 2024, at 18:00 UTC at Basra International Stadium.
