Iraq and EU Collaborate on Nuclear Waste Management

The European Union, in collaboration with Expertise France, Andra France, and IRSN France, is supporting Iraq’s Radiation Protection Centre (RPC) to strengthen its nuclear safety measures and improve radioactive waste management. This partnership, which is part of the EU’s Instrument for Nuclear Safety Cooperation (INSC), is a vital initiative to align Iraq with international safety standards. Running from 2022 to 2025, the €1.86 million project focuses on providing training, technical expertise, and regulatory support, ensuring the safety of both workers and the environment. With a focus on decommissioning and the development of robust safety protocols, this project is set to have a lasting impact on Iraq’s nuclear safety capabilities.
