Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iraq, Mr. Fuad Hussein, concluded an official visit to Morocco, held at the invitation of Moroccan Foreign Minister Mr. Nasser Bourita. The discussions took place in a fraternal atmosphere, highlighting the longstanding ties between the two nations.
Both sides explored ways to enhance bilateral cooperation, particularly in trade, investment, and economic partnerships. They agreed on the importance of holding the 11th session of the Iraqi-Moroccan Joint Committee in Baghdad, while also elevating its chairmanship to the foreign ministerial level for stronger coordination. Additionally, both ministers stressed the need to boost private-sector engagement and explore investment opportunities.
Iraq welcomed the reopening of Morocco’s embassy in Baghdad, considering it a positive step towards deepening relations. Baghdad also reaffirmed its support for Morocco’s territorial integrity and its policies on various international matters.
On regional and international affairs, the ministers emphasised the importance of respecting Arab sovereignty and rejecting foreign interference. They also expressed their commitment to joint Arab action to enhance security and stability. Minister Bourita reaffirmed Morocco’s support for Iraq’s preparations to host the 34th Arab Summit in Baghdad in 2025.
Iraq commended Morocco’s role in African development and its leadership in strengthening continental partnerships. In turn, Morocco praised Iraq’s humanitarian efforts, and its diplomatic role in promoting regional stability.
Additionally, Morocco congratulated Iraq on its presidency of the Group of 77 and China and on Baghdad’s selection as the Arab Tourism Capital for 2025, reflecting Iraq’s growing international influence.
The visit concluded with both nations reaffirming their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties, expanding economic cooperation, and working towards regional security and stability.
