Iraq and the World Bank Discuss Funding for Transport and Social Development Projects

A meeting was held at the Ministry of Finance headquarters between the Minister of Finance, Ms. Taif Sami Mohammed, and a delegation from the World Bank led by the Regional Director for the Middle East, Mr. Jan Christophe Carriere, to discuss ways to enhance cooperation in economic and social development.

The meeting focused specifically on supporting transport projects, including railways and infrastructure related to the development corridor linking Iraq to Turkey and extending to Europe, as well as financing programs from the Social Development Fund.

These projects aim to improve the quality of services provided to citizens, enhance economic growth, and create new job opportunities. Expected benefits include the development of the road and transport network, support for small and medium-sized enterprises, and reductions in poverty and unemployment.

During the meeting, both sides expressed optimism about reaching fruitful cooperation agreements that contribute to achieving sustainable development in Iraq.
