Iraq and Tunisia Strengthen Arab Cultural Ties

Dr. Ahmed Fakak Al-Badrani, Iraq’s Minister of Culture, Tourism, and Antiquities, has arrived in Tunis, Tunisia, leading a high-level ministerial delegation. The delegation included prominent figures such as Dr. Fadhel Mohammed Hussein, Undersecretary for Cultural Affairs, Mr. Ali Obaid Shalgam, Chairman of the Antiquities Authority, and Dr. Alaa Abu Al-Hassan Al-Alaq, Director General of Cultural Relations. They were warmly welcomed by Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director General of the Arab League Educational, Cultural, and Scientific Organization (ALECSO), along with senior officials.

The two sides discussed enhancing cultural cooperation, with Ould Amar lauding Iraq’s initiative to establish Iraqi Cultural Day at ALECSO’s headquarters. He highlighted this as a pioneering step that could encourage other member states to follow suit.

Discussions also focused on Iraq’s vital role within ALECSO, recognising the nation’s cultural leadership in the Arab world. The organisation called upon Iraq to support countries in need, such as Djibouti, Comoros, and Somalia, in areas of culture, education, and science.

Al-Badrani proposed the creation of a cultural calendar to facilitate the exchange of cultural events across Arab capitals, further strengthening Arab cultural unity under ALECSO’s guidance. The meeting concluded with presentations from the organisation’s department heads.
