Iraq and UN Discuss Support for Displaced Communities

The Minister of Migration and Displacement, Ms. Evan Faeq Jabro, hosted Mr. Ghulam Muhammad Ishaq, Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Resident Coordinator, and Humanitarian and Development Coordinator in Iraq, along with his delegation, at the Ministry’s headquarters in Baghdad.

The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation and coordination between the Ministry and UN organisations to address the challenges faced by displaced persons and returnees. Discussions revolved around mechanisms to provide essential support, enhance stability in areas of return, and improve the living conditions of affected communities.

A key highlight of the dialogue was the outcomes of the recent joint visit by Ms. Jabro and Dr. Muhammad Al-Hassan, Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Iraq, to the (Amal) Centre for Psychological and Community Rehabilitation in Nineveh Governorate. The visit underscored the importance of sustained collaboration between the Ministry and UN agencies to ensure the continuation of vital services aimed at fostering recovery and resilience among displaced populations.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to addressing humanitarian challenges through coordinated efforts and strategic planning. The Minister expressed her appreciation for the ongoing support provided by the United Nations and emphasised the need for further cooperation to effectively respond to the needs of displaced Iraqis and promote long-term stability.
