Iraq Celebrates Heritage Heroes with New Annual Award

For the first time in Iraq, a unique initiative to honour contributors to the preservation of heritage and antiquities is being sponsored by the Minister of Culture, Tourism, and Antiquities, Professor Dr. Ahmed Fakak Al-Badrani. Organised by the Mosul Heritage Foundation, this initiative introduces a special necklace to recognise individuals who have dedicated their lives to protecting Iraq’s rich cultural legacy.

During a visit to the Mosul Heritage Foundation, Dr. Al-Badrani announced that the inaugural award for 2024 will be presented to Dr. Ahmed Qasim Al-Juma, a distinguished Mosul archaeologist with over six decades of contributions to the field. This recognition reflects Iraq’s appreciation for those who preserve the depth and significance of its ancient civilisations.

Dr. Al-Badrani also emphasised that this honorary necklace will become an annual tradition, celebrating Iraqi scholars for their efforts in safeguarding heritage and enhancing Iraq’s global cultural and tourist status.

This initiative further marks Iraq’s commitment to honouring its past while inspiring future generations to protect and cherish its history.
