Iraq Focuses on Infrastructure at AIIB 2024 Meeting

Taif Sami Mohammed, Iraq’s Minister of Finance and Governor to the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), participated in the 9th Annual Meeting of the AIIB in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, on September 25-26, 2024.

Held under the theme “Building Infrastructure for All,” the meeting brought together representatives from 109 countries. Minister Mohammed took part in key discussions at the Governors’ Roundtable, including both the Official and General Sessions. The event provided a platform to strengthen global cooperation on infrastructure development, focusing on areas such as industry, transportation, and energy.

This marks Iraq’s second participation since joining the AIIB, reflecting the country’s commitment to rehabilitating and advancing its infrastructure. Through its involvement, Iraq seeks to deepen partnerships across Asia and the wider world, while stimulating investment and securing financing for major infrastructure projects amid ongoing global financial challenges.

Iraq’s engagement with the AIIB aims to play a key role in the country’s economic recovery, encouraging growth and development in vital sectors that support long-term prosperity.
