Iraq Halts Visa on Arrival for Several Countries

The Iraqi Ministry of Interior has announced a significant change to its visa policy, discontinuing the issuance of visas on arrival for citizens of several countries, effective from 2 March 2025.

The affected countries include:

  • United States of America
  • China
  • Russia
  • United Kingdom
  • Australia
  • South Korea
  • Japan
  • New Zealand
  • Switzerland
  • European Union countries

As a result, travellers from these nations must now obtain an entry visa in advance through Iraq’s official e-visa platform: eservice.evisa.iq.

Authorities have urged all travellers to secure their electronic visas before departure, as airlines will not accept passengers without prior approval. The decision marks a shift in Iraq’s border control measures, likely aimed at enhancing security and regulating visitor entry.

For further details, travellers are advised to check with Iraqi embassies or visit the official visa application website.
