The Iraqi Ministry of Youth and Sports, through its Women’s Affairs Department, organised a vibrant sports marathon on the occasion of World Science and Peace Week, held under the slogan “Together to Support Science in All Its Types and Fields.” The event brought together Ministry employees and students from Al-Farahidi and Al-Isra Universities to celebrate the intersection of sports, science, and peace.
Dr. Fatima Al-Zahraa Nafaat, Director of the Women’s Affairs Department, emphasised the significance of the marathon as a platform to promote peace, support scientific progress, and advocate for physical health through sports. “The aim of this festival is not only to recognise the importance of global peace and the role of science but also to raise awareness of the health benefits of regular sports activities,” Dr. Nafaat said.
The marathon concluded with a festive award ceremony, where the top participants received cups and medals in recognition of their achievements. Winners expressed gratitude to the Ministry for hosting the event, which they described as a “sports carnival” that united the community in support of peace, scientific advancement, and well-being.
The marathon’s focus on peace and science aligns with Iraq’s efforts to highlight the importance of knowledge and collaboration in addressing global challenges, underscoring the Ministry of Youth and Sports’ commitment to fostering a well-rounded and informed society.
