Iraq Showcases Investment Opportunities at Paris Summit

Iraq participated in the fifth economic summit of the Arab-French Chamber of Commerce, held in Paris, showcasing its potential as a strategic partner for investment and economic collaboration. The event brought together officials, investors, and business leaders to discuss opportunities and foster closer ties between Arab nations and France.

Dr. Wadih Batti, Iraq’s Ambassador to France, opened the session on Iraq, emphasising the strong bilateral relationship between the two countries, bolstered by the strategic partnership agreement signed in January 2023. He called on French companies to expand their presence in Iraq, highlighting the wealth of investment opportunities across sectors such as energy, infrastructure, and agriculture. Dr. Batti also underscored Iraq’s commitment to empowering the private sector as a key economic driver through sovereign guarantee programmes.

Dr. Haider Makiya, Chairman of the Iraq Investment Commission, outlined Iraq’s comprehensive investment plans, pointing to the country’s rich natural resources, strategic geographic location, and promising sectors including smart cities and technology. He invited international investors to capitalise on Iraq’s role as a regional and global trade hub.

Dr. Raed Nizar, Economic Advisor to the Federation of Iraqi Chambers of Commerce, detailed Iraq’s evolving legal framework aimed at aligning the country with international investment standards. These reforms, he explained, are designed to build investor confidence and create a stable, business-friendly environment.

The summit served as a vital platform for dialogue on sustainable development, digital transformation, and support for small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Through active participation, Iraq reinforced its commitment to strengthening economic ties and attracting global investments to achieve sustainable growth and development.
