Iraq to Improve International Press Access and Coverage

The Executive Chairman of the Communications and Media Commission (CMC), Eng. Mohammed Abdullah Abdul Amir, met with Ambassador Dr. Hisham Al-Alawi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Political Planning Affairs, to discuss joint efforts in media and diplomatic cooperation. The meeting, held at the CMC headquarters in Baghdad, also included Dr. Fouad Ghazi, Head of the Media Department at the Foreign Ministry.

Key topics of discussion included streamlining the process of granting licenses to foreign media delegations visiting Iraq. Both sides emphasised the importance of facilitating journalists’ work while ensuring compliance with existing laws and regulations. The discussions also touched on preparations for the international media coverage of “Baghdad, the Capital of Arab Tourism 2025,” aiming to project Iraq’s rich historical and cultural identity to a global audience.

A major outcome of the meeting was the agreement to strengthen collaboration by forming a joint working team responsible for coordinating foreign media visits. Additionally, both parties committed to enhancing training and professional development opportunities for staff, fostering greater expertise in the field of media and communications.

These efforts reflect Iraq’s broader strategy to boost international media engagement and ensure a well-structured approach to showcasing the country’s progress and cultural significance on the global stage.
