Iraqi Culture Minister Meets Russian Delegation

The Minister of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities, Professor Dr Ahmed Fakkak Al-Badrani, met today with a Russian delegation led by Dr Alq Ali Al-Burghash, Director General of the Russian House. The meeting also included Dr Alaa Abu Al-Hassan Al-Alaq, Director General of the Department of Public Cultural Relations; and Dr Qasim Mohsen, Director General of the Department of Fine Arts.

The Minister warmly welcomed the Russian delegation, describing their visit as a pivotal step towards strengthening Iraqi-Russian relations in cultural fields. He highlighted the longstanding connections between the two nations, noting that Russian historians and intellectuals have contributed significantly to the study and appreciation of Iraq’s rich cultural and historical heritage. He also underscored the Ministry’s efforts to translate numerous Russian works into Arabic, fostering a deeper understanding between the peoples of both nations.

Dr Al-Badrani said that Iraq and Russia share countless examples of a deep and enduring partnership. The Minister called for facilitating greater popular tourism by simplifying the processes required for tourist entry, aiming to promote mutual understanding and economic benefits.

The Russian delegation expressed their gratitude for the warm reception and noted that this visit marked a milestone as the first since the establishment of the Russian House in Iraq on 17 July 2024. They emphasised their delight at being in Iraq and their commitment to showcasing an authentic image of the country to Russian audiences. Additionally, they identified various opportunities for future collaboration in cultural, artistic, and environmental initiatives, highlighting the potential for stronger ties between the two nations.
