Iraqi-Libyan Cultural Week Planned in Tripoli

The Chargé d’Affaires of the Iraqi Embassy in Libya, Dr. Ahmed Al-Sahaf, met with the Libyan Minister of Culture and Knowledge Affairs, Ms. Mabrouka Toghi Othman, to discuss enhancing cultural cooperation between the two nations. The meeting highlighted the shared vision for fostering cultural exchange and strengthening ties between Iraq and Libya.

Dr. Al-Sahaf emphasised Iraq’s selection as the Capital of Arab Culture for 2025 by the Council of Arab Ministers of Culture and as the Capital of Arab Tourism for 2025 by the Arab Tourism Organisation. He attributed this recognition to Iraq’s robust infrastructure, rich cultural heritage, and the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Antiquities’ efforts in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to advance cultural diplomacy.

The discussions explored:

  • Signing a comprehensive memorandum of understanding for joint cultural initiatives.
  • Boosting tourism and encouraging travel between the two nations.
  • Collaboration in arts, theatre, and cultural production industries, including hosting Iraqi experts in Libya.
  • Cooperation between research and music centres and establishing cultural centres to promote diversity, development, and training opportunities.

Ms. Mabrouka Toghi expressed her enthusiasm for deepening bilateral cultural ties and proposed hosting an Iraqi-Libyan Cultural Week in Tripoli. The event would feature professors, artistic groups, poets, writers, and heritage experts, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of both countries.
