Iraqi Sports Clubs to Receive Better Support

The Ministry of Youth and Sports has reaffirmed its commitment to fully supporting sports clubs in Iraq to enhance their administrative and technical operations, contributing to the overall advancement of Iraqi sports. Dr. Muwaffaq Abdul Wahab, Director General of the Department of Physical Education and Sports, emphasized this commitment during a meeting with Jiay Timur, a member of the Parliamentary Youth and Sports Committee and representative of the Kurdistan Region.

Dr. Abdul Wahab stated that the Ministry is dedicated to providing essential support to all sports clubs in line with its broader strategy to expand their activities. He acknowledged the importance of improving the administrative and technical performance of these clubs to foster a more robust sports culture across the country. “We aim to be equally supportive of all clubs, whether they are located in central Iraq or in the Kurdistan Region,” he said.

However, he noted that the government’s support for clubs in the Kurdistan Region is primarily reserved for those that compete on behalf of Iraq. In such cases, the sports federations must formally request assistance, as these clubs operate under the regional budget.

During the meeting, the two officials discussed various important topics related to the development of Iraqi sports, including the need for a new sports clubs law and the specific conditions and regulations set forth by the Ministry of Youth and Sports. This discussion reflects a shared commitment to building a strong foundation for sports in Iraq, ensuring that clubs have the necessary support and resources to thrive.

As the Ministry continues to take proactive steps toward enhancing the sports environment in Iraq, this collaboration between government officials and sports representatives will play a vital role in achieving the desired growth and improvement in the sector.
