KBR and Iraqi Ports Collaborate on Grand Faw Port Management

The General Company for Iraqi Ports held a crucial meeting today with the Ministry of Planning and the global consulting firm KBR to discuss strategies for managing the Grand Faw Port and to develop its operational policy.

Dr. Farhan Al-Fartousi, General Manager of the General Company for Iraqi Ports, explained that the meeting was in line with the directives of Minister of Transport, Mr. Razzaq Muhaibis Al-Saadawi, who emphasised the need to operate the Grand Faw Port using the best available international expertise, as part of the government’s broader vision for the project.

The discussions focused on finalising the management and operational framework for the port, preparing a draft model contract that aligns with the study for its operation, and outlining the necessary training and qualification mechanisms for the Iraqi Ports staff tasked with overseeing the port’s expansion and operations.

Dr. Al-Fartousi stressed that the goal of these meetings is to ensure the port’s operation aligns with the government’s strategic vision, as outlined in the national program of Prime Minister Eng. Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani.

KBR, a global consulting firm contracted by the Iraqi government through the Ministry of Planning, is assisting in formulating the best policy for operating the Grand Faw Port, adhering to international standards and the highest specifications for global port operations.
