The IBBC Agritech Committee hosted a notable visit from His Excellency Abbas Jebur Al Maliky, the Iraqi Minister of Agriculture, alongside Mr. Talib Lafta from the State Company for Agriculture. Over three days, they were introduced to British agricultural capabilities, engaging with UK Ministers, Shadow Ministers, and IBBC members.
Baroness Nicholson spearheaded the ministerial meetings, supported by Dr. Amet Selman of AAA Holdings and Mr. Christophe Michels, IBBC Managing Director. HE Maliky held discussions with Lord Johnson, the Investment Minister of the Department for International Trade (DIT), as well as two Labour Shadow Ministers, Mr. Wayne David MP, Shadow Minister for the Middle East and North Africa, and Mr. Daniel Zeichner, Shadow Minister for Agriculture, Food, and Fisheries, exploring avenues for collaboration with the UK.
Earlier, HE Maliky participated in the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Iraq at the House of Lords, chaired by Baroness Nicholson, outlining Iraq’s priorities. He highlighted achievements such as a significant increase in wheat yields, from 2 million to 7 million tons, attributed to new fertilizers and techniques, ensuring food security for the population. Additionally, he attended an informal gathering at an IBBC dinner held at the Cavalry and Guards Club, encouraging connections with members.
