His Excellency, Minister of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities, Dr. Ahmed Fakak Al-Badrani, attended the opening of a significant exhibition titled “Three Walls: The Story of the Place in Old Mosul,” held at UNESCO headquarters in Paris. The event, which showcases the story of resilience and heritage in Mosul, featured powerful displays intended to preserve the cultural memory and highlight the importance of unity and reconstruction.
The exhibition drew a large gathering, including Iraqi Ambassador Dr. Wadi’ Batti, Dr. Alaa Abu Al-Hasan Al-Alaq, Director General of the Department of Cultural Relations, and Museum Director Amer Matar. Attendees included representatives from UNESCO, the German Foreign Ministry, and nearly 1,300 guests, all united by a shared interest in heritage preservation and cultural resilience.
In his address, Minister Al-Badrani emphasised the role of peace and cultural understanding as vital components in fostering security and prosperity, affirming that all people deserve the freedom to practice their traditions as well as beliefs in a spirit of mutual respect and tolerance. His message resonated with attendees, as the exhibition highlighted the region’s enduring heritage and the strength of its communities.
The opening was also marked by a stirring musical performance from acclaimed Iraqi musician and UNESCO Peace Ambassador Naseer Shamma. His performance added a reflective tone to the exhibition, celebrating Iraq’s cultural heritage through the arts. The exhibition “Three Walls” serves as a tribute to Mosul’s history, underscoring the universal desire for peace and the preservation of cultural identity.
