The Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities participated in the official launch of the National Initiative for Energy Support and Emissions Reduction on Sunday, 27 October 2024. The event, hosted by the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, marked the introduction of a comprehensive policy following its approval by the Council of Ministers.
Dr. Muntaser Sabah Al-Hasnawi, Director General of the Conference Palace Directorate, represented the Ministry during this significant gathering, which included various ministers and heads of parliamentary committees. The meeting focused on the initiative’s executive plans aimed at achieving its goals, with a particular emphasis on building efficiency.
One of the key responsibilities assigned to the Ministry of Culture is the oversight and monitoring of Goal 8, which prioritises education and awareness concerning energy efficiency and emissions reduction. Discussions also addressed the Central Bank’s initiative to provide solar energy loans, highlighting the associated challenges and potential financing mechanisms. Participants explored various topics pertinent to the initiative’s objectives, emphasising the need for effective environmental work procedures.
The meeting concluded with a consensus on the necessity to incorporate several recommendations, including urging the Ministry of Oil to mandate investment companies in the oil sector to contribute to the establishment of green belts and to accelerate projects focused on reducing environmental pollutants.
In recognition of their contributions, the representative of the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities, along with other participating ministries, was awarded an Excellence Shield. This accolade reflects the collaborative efforts being made to advance Iraq’s commitment to sustainable energy practices and emissions reduction.
