The Ministry of Planning is actively overseeing school construction projects across Najaf Governorate to replace older structures with modern facilities. These projects include newly designed schools equipped with advanced engineering, prefabricated concrete construction, and sustainable designs aimed at reducing overcrowding.
In a recent statement, the Ministry confirmed that its ministerial committee has conducted on-site inspections to monitor progress and address any obstacles. The committee’s primary focus was on a project to construct eight schools of varying capacities, seven of which have been completed. Each school features 18 classrooms, administrative offices, laboratories, and separate health facilities across three floors. This initiative, already 94% complete, aligns with Iraq’s sustainable development goals by enhancing educational infrastructure.
The committee also reviewed a second project involving the construction of ten schools. To date, two schools have been completed, while five remain under construction, and three are temporarily halted. These schools, each with a capacity of 18 classrooms over a 1,000-square-metre area, are also designed with prefabricated concrete and situated on existing school sites to optimise available land. The completion rate for this project stands at approximately 34%.
The Ministry’s statement highlighted logistical issues hindering progress and called on relevant agencies to expedite resolutions, ensuring timely project completion and activation to meet educational demands in Najaf Governorate.
