Under the direction of Minister Evan Faeq Jabro, the Ministry of Migration and Displacement successfully facilitated the return of 126 Iraqi citizens from areas along the Syrian-Turkish border, including Tal Abyad, Ras al-Ain, Idlib, and Azaz. This initiative is part of the Ministry’s voluntary repatriation programme aimed at encouraging Iraqis abroad to return home.
Dr. Safaa Hussein Ahmed, Director General of the Department of Migration Affairs and Head of the Committee for Receiving Returning Iraqis, stated that the returnees entered Iraq through the Ibrahim al-Khalil crossing in Zakho. This effort involved close coordination between the Ministry’s Ankara office, the Iraqi Embassy in Turkey, and the Consulate in Gaziantep.
The returnees are set to be reintegrated into their original governorates, including Nineveh, Salah al-Din, Anbar, and Kirkuk. Dr. Ahmed also announced the imminent arrival of another group of returnees within the next two days.
Additionally, a final group of 96 Iraqis from the same areas has now been repatriated, marking the completion of this year’s returns from Syria through Turkish territory.
