A critical infrastructure project connecting the governorates of Dhi Qar, Wasit, Qadisiyah (Diwaniyah), and Maysan is making progress, with the Ministry of Planning conducting a field inspection today. The Nasiriyah-Kut road maintenance project spans a 28-kilometre stretch for the return passage and plays a vital role in regional connectivity.
According to the Ministry’s statement, the project focuses on rehabilitating the return road from Kut to Nasiriyah, which extends from Al-Fajr city to Al-Rifai city, serving three administrative units directly: Al-Fajr, Al-Qalaa, and Al-Rifai. The road is part of a strategic expressway with mixed load capacity, playing a vital role in regional connectivity.
The maintenance involves a comprehensive overhaul, including:
- Scraping 25 kilometres of the road.
- Paving a 3 cm modification layer and a 7 cm binding layer for damaged sections.
- Applying a polymer surface layer along the entire road.
- Replacing missing protective fences.
- Road planning and installing traffic warning and guiding signs.
The project is on track for completion by March 2025.
The Nasiriyah-Kut road is a critical artery linking northern and southern parts of Iraq. By connecting four key governorates, the road enhances trade, transport, and accessibility for communities along its route. The project underscores the Ministry’s commitment to improving Iraq’s infrastructure and facilitating regional economic growth.
