The Implementation Committee for Iraq’s National Strategy for Iraqi Women (2023-2030) convened its inaugural meeting at the Ministry headquarters, underscoring the critical role of women within Iraqi institutions and initiatives aimed at elevating their contributions across society. The session, led by Mr. Sadiq Huwaidi Abbas, Director General of the Administrative and Financial Department, brought together committee members from various departments within the Ministry.
Key topics discussed included expanding women’s political engagement, promoting their presence in political decision-making, and ensuring equal access to economic opportunities. The committee also addressed initiatives to support women in economic activities and in the workforce, as well as measures to protect their rights and freedoms. Combating violence and discrimination against women was also a priority, aligning with Iraq’s broader commitment to human rights and gender equality.
This committee was established in response to a directive issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, alongside the guidance from the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers’ National Department for Iraqi Women. Serving as a roadmap, the strategy emphasises the inclusion of women across all sectors, aiming to drive sustainable development and highlight women’s potential as key contributors to Iraq’s national objectives and progress. The initiative seeks to embed equal opportunities within the framework of state institutions, ultimately enhancing women’s impact in shaping Iraq’s future.
