New Health Units Launched in Schools to Improve Student Well-being

On Thursday, November 14, 2024, the Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, marked National School Health Day with a special celebration at Al-Fadhail Mixed Primary School in the Third Karkh Education Directorate. Under the patronage of Prime Minister Eng. Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani and the slogan “Students’ Health is Everyone’s Responsibility. In Healthy Schools, We Build a Strong Generation,” the event aimed to highlight the importance of students’ health in achieving academic success and fostering overall well-being.

The event was attended by several prominent figures, including Minister of Education Dr. Ibrahim Namis Al-Jubouri, Prime Minister’s Advisor for Civil Society Organizations Affairs Ms. Sara Ayad Allawi, and senior officials from both the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education.

In his speech, Dr. Ibrahim Namis Al-Jubouri emphasised the vital role of student health in achieving academic excellence, stressing the ongoing collaboration between the Ministries of Health and Education. This partnership, he noted, enhances health awareness among students and develops programs that focus on both medical and psychological support, ensuring the overall well-being of children.

Dr. Khamis Al-Saad, the Administrative Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health, reiterated the significance of school health, highlighting the collaboration between the two ministries to ensure the mental and physical health of students. He discussed the various services provided in schools, such as vaccinations, periodic health check-ups, and medical care. The celebration also marked the opening of the first health unit at Al-Fadhail Primary School, one of the 2,000 health units planned for schools across Iraq during the 2024-2025 academic year. These units aim to provide students with access to necessary health services and raise awareness about maintaining a healthy environment in schools.

Dr. Al-Saad expressed his gratitude to the health and educational staff for their dedicated efforts in providing medical services to students, ensuring a healthy school environment.

The event concluded with a series of performances by students of Al-Fadhail Primary School, reflecting the spirit of National School Health Day and the collective commitment to student health across Iraq.
