In a major step towards modernising healthcare in Iraq, the Health Insurance Authority has signed a contract for the implementation of an integrated electronic health insurance system. The agreement, made with the leading Iraqi Progress Company, was signed under the supervision of the Minister of Health, Dr. Saleh Mahdi Al-Hasnawi.
The new system is set to revolutionise the administration of health insurance across the country. Mr. Ali Ahmed, Director General of the Insurance Fund, highlighted that this initiative aligns with the government’s ongoing programme to enhance public services through digital transformation.
“We are committed to adopting this system in a record period of time,” Mr. Ahmed stated. “The next step will be the introduction of biometric cards for insured individuals, which will include their complete medical records. These records will be electronically linked to both public and private health institutions that provide health insurance services throughout Iraq.”
The electronic system is designed to streamline procedures, reduce administrative burdens, and ensure efficient service delivery. It represents a significant milestone in the government’s broader plan to automate public services using advanced technology.
The system will handle the entire health insurance process electronically, from registration and card issuance to service provision and medical examination results. This fully integrated approach is expected to eliminate cumbersome paperwork, enhance accuracy, and reduce delays in service delivery.
“This initiative is a clear example of the government’s efforts to serve the public more effectively through the use of modern technology,” Mr. Ahmed added. “By reducing routine administrative procedures and improving efficiency, we are contributing to a higher standard of healthcare for Iraqi citizens.”
The launch of this digital health insurance system represents a major leap forward for Iraq’s healthcare sector, demonstrating the government’s dedication to harnessing technology to improve public services and provide better care for its citizens.
