New Merger Under Ministry of Commerce

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Planning, Dr. Mohammed Ali Tamim, chaired a crucial meeting on Wednesday to study the potential merger of two companies under the Ministry of Commerce. This initiative aligns with the government’s broader economic vision, aimed at enhancing efficiency and service delivery in key sectors.

The meeting, held with senior officials including Abdul Karim Al-Faisal, Chairman of the Advisory Board, and advisors to the Prime Minister on economic, strategic, and legal affairs, focused on the merger of the Central Markets Company and the General Company for Foodstuff Trading.

During the session, participants reviewed recommendations from the committee’s first meeting, analysed the Ministry of Commerce’s stance, and examined the potential outcomes of this merger. The objective is to optimise services provided to Iraqi citizens while improving operational efficiency. By merging these entities, the government hopes to streamline processes, reduce costs, and strengthen the country’s commercial infrastructure.

The merger aligns with Iraq’s broader goals of economic reform, and the meeting highlighted the importance of strategic planning and collaboration across ministries to achieve these objectives.
