In a significant initiative to enhance public transportation for university students, the Minister of Transport, Mr. Razzaq Muhaibis Al-Saadawi, has launched eight new public transport lines in Baghdad. This move aligns with the start of the new academic year and aims to facilitate access to educational institutions, specifically Al-Bayan University, which is a key destination for many students.
According to the Ministry of Transport, the newly inaugurated lines will serve various neighbourhoods, providing students with convenient and efficient routes. For instance, the first line connects Aden Square to Al-Bayan University, traversing important areas such as Al-Adl, Al-Ghazaliya, and Al-Amiriya. Similarly, other lines cover routes from Bab Al-Sharqi, Al-Bayaa, and Al-Saydiya, all leading to the university, ensuring that students from diverse parts of the capital can easily reach their campus.
The Ministry has emphasised its commitment to include students from all universities in Baghdad in public transportation services, particularly focusing on those in densely populated and remote areas. This initiative not only aims to relieve traffic congestion but also provides affordable and comfortable transportation options for students with limited income, promoting a more accessible educational environment. Future plans for extending public transport services to other governorates are also in the pipeline, showcasing the Ministry’s dedication to improving transportation infrastructure in Iraq.
