Palestinian Team Arrives in Basra Ahead of World Cup Qualifiers

The footballing spotlight is firmly set on Basra as the Palestinian national team arrived in the city on Sunday, 6th October, ahead of their World Cup qualifying match against Iraq. The match, part of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Asian qualifiers, is scheduled to take place at Basra International Stadium on 10th October. The Palestinian delegation, upon arrival at Basra Airport, was greeted warmly by Badr Nasser, head of the Basra Sub-Union, and Amjad Muhammad Ali, a member of the sub-union.

The Palestinian team praised the efficiency of the reception and the smooth handling of administrative matters, expressing satisfaction with the facilities and the speed at which their entry was processed. This hospitality has set a positive tone for their visit as they prepare for their crucial match.

Meanwhile, the Iraqi national football team departed for Basra on Sunday evening to prepare for their upcoming fixtures. Following the match against Palestine, Iraq will travel to South Korea to face the national team there in the qualifiers. 

As the team gears up for the important match against Palestine, a number of professional players are expected to join the squad throughout the day, ensuring that Iraq fields its strongest side for the qualifier.
