Prime Minister Mohammed Shi’a Al-Sudani, accompanied by Minister of Culture, Tourism, and Antiquities Dr. Ahmed Fakkak Al-Badrani, inaugurated the first phase of the Ur Tourist City project during his recent visit to Dhi Qar Governorate.
This initial phase includes the construction of a cultural centre, an open-air Sumerian theatre, a closed Ur theatre, an interfaith dialogue centre, and an administrative wing equipped with meeting rooms.
Additionally, the Prime Minister announced the commencement of executive work on several key projects within the Ur Tourist City. These projects include the Ur World Museum, a 400-room tourist hotel, a drama production city, the Khatam al-Anbiya Mosque, and a heritage market, all part of the strategic initiatives under the Dhi Qar Reconstruction Fund (DQRF).
Highlighting the progress, Mr. Al-Sudani praised the completion of the Ur Theater, noting its potential to host various cultural events. He also underscored the significance of laying the foundation stones for major projects previously approved by the Council of Ministers. These include the Cultural City project, a museum, and a hotel, all aimed at enhancing tourism services in the province.
Lastly, efforts are underway to complete the Nasiriyah International Airport project to accommodate the influx of tourists and visitors.
