The Iraqi Foreign Relations Committee, led by MP Amer Al-Fayez and accompanied by MPs Vian Sabri, Muthanna Amin, and Arian Aziz, met on Monday with Mr. Chen Weiqing, Chairman of the West Asia and North Africa Management Committee at the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and former Ambassador to Iraq. The meeting, held in the presence of the Chargé d’Affaires at the Iraqi Embassy in Beijing, focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation and addressing issues of mutual interest.
Mr. Chen welcomed the Iraqi delegation, commending the Iraqi Council of Representatives for its role in fostering parliamentary relations that enhance collaboration between the two countries. He highlighted plans for future diplomatic and parliamentary visits aimed at deepening ties and reinforcing coordination in various fields. The Chinese government reiterated its commitment to supporting Iraq’s stability and sovereignty.
The Iraqi delegation expressed gratitude for the hospitality and stressed the importance of improving cooperation in key sectors. They advocated for increased investment opportunities for Chinese companies in Iraq, leveraging China’s expertise in agriculture, particularly in saltwater rice cultivation. Additionally, they emphasised the importance of renewable energy collaboration, streamlining visa processes, and enhancing banking relations. In education, they proposed expanding cultural and academic exchange programmes, including more scholarships for students from both nations.
The delegation also invited the Chinese Foreign Minister to visit Iraq for discussions on advancing bilateral relations and addressing key regional and global developments. This meeting underscores the commitment of both nations to fostering a strategic partnership based on mutual respect and shared interests.
