Shanasheel Al Basra Museum Welcomes UN Special Representative

Dr. Mohamed Al Hassan, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations for Iraq and Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI), visited the Shanasheel Al Basra Museum as part of his ongoing visit to southern Iraq.

During his visit, Dr. Al Hassan explored the museum, which is renowned for preserving and showcasing the cultural heritage and architectural history of Basra. The Shanasheel Al Basra Museum is an important cultural landmark, providing insight into the region’s rich history and the traditional “Shanasheel” houses that are a key part of Basra’s identity.

This visit is part of the UN Special Representative’s broader tour of southern Iraq, aimed at strengthening ties between the United Nations and the local communities. Dr. Al Hassan’s engagement with the region highlights the UN’s commitment to supporting Iraq’s cultural preservation, development, and reconciliation efforts.
