Baghdad’s Mayor, Eng. Ammar Musa Kazim, has officially sponsored the signing ceremony of a significant infrastructure contract for the new Sadr City. The agreement, reached between the Baghdad Municipality’s Projects Department and Shandong Hi-Speed, marks a major milestone in the capital’s urban development plans.
The contract entails the implementation of vital infrastructure works for an initial 11,000 housing units and key road networks, forming the first phase of the broader New Sadr City project. The undertaking aligns with the directives of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, who has prioritised housing and infrastructure development as cornerstones of the government’s strategy to address urban expansion and improve living conditions in the capital.
The project is expected to lay the groundwork for a modern and well-connected urban environment, equipped to accommodate Baghdad’s growing population. This latest collaboration also signals Iraq’s continued efforts to engage with international partners, particularly China, in advancing its infrastructure and housing sectors.
Mayor Ammar Musa Kazim reaffirmed the Municipality’s commitment to ensuring the successful implementation of the project, which is seen as a pivotal step toward transforming eastern Baghdad and enhancing the city’s overall urban fabric.
